The Broken Seal
Chapter 7: The Unseen Hand
In the quiet after the gale, the Warden showed Rowan, Dunn, Ilya, Nera, and Arlo what it had seen in the seal's roots: supports cut with care, marks altered long before any miner struck the deep iron. The breach in the Iron Wound was real, but it had landed on groundwork already weakened by design.
The proof named no culprit. No face, no sigil, no confession — only the cold certainty that someone had wanted the seal to fail and had worked patiently toward that end while Velharrow slept above it. The unseen antagonist remained unseen.
Velharrow chose repair over despair. Dunn redirected his crews from extraction to shoring. Ilya reopened the frontier paths. Nera kept listening for true notes in the crystal chorus. Arlo set watches on the restored barrier. Rowan told the settlement the truth without dressing it in false comfort: the road ahead would ask more of them. Book One closed with the region saved and the larger war still unfought.
